Audio Video Technician

THIS POSITION IS DESIGNATED AS ONE THAT MAY REQUIRE A DIFFERENT WORK WEEK AND/OR HOURS OF WORK.

The current schedule is Monday to Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Upon short notice, the work-week and/or hours of work may be changed.

Job Description: Reporting to the Event Technology Manager, and working closely with the Banquets Department, the position of Event Technology Technician will provide technical support and operations for our conference facilities. The position will include setup and tear down of audio/visual equipment for events and meetings, live event operations, troubleshooting of AV systems, back office computer and telephony systems. The incumbent will assist guests with connecting their computers to either our in-house projectors or projectors that the guest may bring in. The incumbent will also work with other departments within the La Vista Complex, including administrative and engineering personnel.

Principle responsibilities will be to:

Operate, maintain and effectively handle Event Technology equipment in the Conference Center, admin offices, and other conference rooms in both Embassy Suites and Courtyard Marriott.

Provide lighting, sound and video support in ballrooms and meeting rooms;

Ensure that AV in events operates as smoothly as possible.

Participate in the live event operations of fund raising events and business conferences

Effectively troubleshoot complex AV systems during and after installation.

Deliver, set-up, and operate equipment such as public address systems, video playback systems for special events including the hotel lobbies and pre-function spaces;

Review incoming booking requests for AV equipment and set-ups; plan equipment needed and the best way to perform setups, operations, and teardown;

Provide first level support of network, telephony connectivity, software and hardware issues. Escalate to next level support personnel when needed.

Ongoing operations will include:

Install, configure and upgrade equipment in the Conference Center and both hotels;

Participate in planning and implementation of AV in our facilities;

Inform the Event Technology Manager of needed supplies; (lamps, gaffer tape, flip chart markers and paper, etc.).

Set-up, configure, troubleshoot and operate video and audio equipment and its peripherals; provide power drops to exhibit booths; nightly equipment shut-down/recovery/cable wrapping and storage;

Integrate and retrofit AV equipment into system racks; wiring and cable dressing of racks;

Encourage effective use of Conference Center equipment and services and provide end-user training sessions and workshops to Sales and Admin staff on use of AV/Multi-media equipment;

QUALIFICATIONS

HS grad plus experience in the field of audio visual electronic or in film or multi-media;

Practical experience with AV installations;

Minimum 6 months of related experience, with an emphasis on successful live event operations;

Knowledge of AV systems (meeting room/control system equipment, video/audio conferencing, stage lighting, ballroom rigging, scissor lift operations)

Have a proven track record of working effectively with clients and guests;

Be a self-starter and be proactive;

Expertise with complex camera and video recording equipment;

Ability to easily adapt to fast changing environments.
